Our Story
Upahar is an initiative by the Indian Hindu community of Atlanta launched in 2017 with the purpose of giving back to the local community. Several Indian faith-based and community-based organizations came together in this Initiative to sponsor the first-ever all-Indian/Hindu build with Atlanta Habitat for Humanity for a much-deserving family. The gift of Upahar is a hand-up to a deserving family in enabling them to own their home and build their life successfully. The Upahar projects have gone to a single mother of a beautiful young daughter and a hard-working, ambitious young man, and one cannot put into words the impact this gift makes on that family and for generations to come. This year, the Hindu temple of Atlanta has taken the leadership in uniting all in the Indian community in sponsoring a Build in the upcoming year 2026 with Atlanta Habitat for Humanity. This project would not be possible without the help of generous-minded philanthropists and donors. HTA appeals to the entire Indian Community to open their hearts generously to donate towards this cause.
